In this case we refer to humanity and Divinty.

"For God so Love the world that he sent his own begotten son, that whosoever believe that in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16

Humanity- this is where God came down to earth in the flesh just as man is made of flesh. He went through the same procedure where we came into the world being in our mothers womb for 9 months then being born. He appeared in flesh to redeem us from our sins; he took on our sin. Why? Because he couldn't depend on anyone to do the work so he came down and did it for himself.

Divinity - God is a spirit being he has no hand but our hand and he has no mouth but our mouth. He didn't want to come down as he is cuz as his word said no man shall see the face of God and live. We cannot behold his Glory.

To sum everything up Jesus and God are ONE because he Jesus is God in the Flesh. He is only called son because just as we are sons and daughters to our earthly father. Being that he wanted to show us , for us to follow in his foot steps and show us the way we should live he took on sonship.

Jesus Himself said that He and the Father are one (John 10:30,John14:6-11) which means that you can't separate them. This unity and bond is beyond our human understanding. If you give the Father praise without Jesus or the Holy Spirit, then you have missed it and if you pray to the Father without sealing it in the name of His personality as a son or son of man, then your prayers will be useless (1 John 2 :22; 1 John 5:1-5).

Just picture in your mind a living being that is fire (Ezekiel 1:26), glorious and holy and righteous radiating light, made of all colours known and unknown by man (Ezekiel 1:26), that can take any form (Exodus 3:2,4,6). This God, if He wants, can break Himself into uncountable parts and come back as one which is beyond our understanding (Genesis 18:1,2). So, God made Himself the Father then the Son or Son of man because He came to earth as a human being and the ram of sacrifice (Genesis 22:13-16) for us to be turned back into the Eden of Adam, and now God is with us as the Holy Spirit.

Pause and ponder, who was the ram that Abraham sacrificed and what does it represent? See also Revelation 1ff. God turned Himself into a pillar of cloud and pillar of fire to protect the Israelites (Exodus 40:34-38). God can be merciful and forgiving but also merciless in the future time of judgment of all (Exodus 16:30,46, 49). God is beyond comprehension by human mind and we should fear, respect, worship and bow to Him lest we be destroyed or damned eternally.
