We are here to let our light shine so when someone sees contentment in our lives, they will want to have what we have & they know that Jesus Christ is in our hearts, minds & souls. It is the Holy Spirits position to lead people to God & not our job to convict people of their sins. I hope this helps. God bless.
Let us begin to find an answer to this question by noting John 6:65 : "And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father." From the above, it is my opinion that one has to first be drawn to the Father, the Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth in order for the person to be granted to come to the Son. So, I would reason with the person on the necessary existence of a Creator, God. 1. A well-equipped house, an automobile, a computer to mention a few inventions of man, require a designer and builder. Those things did not just evolve or come into existence by themselves. 2. The much more complex humans, animals, plants, and the heavenly bodies must also require a designer, builder, that is, a creator. 3. Humans used certain raw materials to manufacture products. The raw materials are found in the earth, which, of course must have been put in place by "someone". 4. The Creator must be very thoughtful and caring as seen from his creative works. The Creator must also possess power and wisdom, judging by the water and nitrogen circles, amongst others. 5.Humans provide operating/ user manuals for their inventions; wouldn't it be reasonable for the Creator to provide a manual to guide humans? The Bible claims to be that manual provided by the Creator. 6. I would try to build up the confidence of the person in the Bible as the book from God; that it can be relied upon and trusted. It is scientifically accurate. 7. The story of creation of the earth and humans is provided only by the Bible. In it we find the purpose of creation, the record concerning the first humans, the guidance that the Creator provided to make them enjoy unending life on earth. In it we also find the record of how man failed and the consequence of that fall..pain, sorrow and death. 7. The Creator's love for man and the infallibility of his purpose caused him to provide a way of escape for those humans who will choose to obey him. That this is so will be explained by reasoning on Genesis 3:15. The promised seed of the woman will be a Saviour of mankind. He is the means of salvation. 8. The bible record tells of how that seed would be brought forth through Abraham's family line. Jesus Christ proved to be the seed of the woman and the seed of Abraham, through which God promised that blessings will come to all the nations of the earth, Genesis 22:17-18; Galatians 3:16. 9. The bible records Jesus as saying:" For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." 10. Bible assures us that God is concerned about the problems that humans are confronted with in the world...pain, sorrow, wickedness, death. God will change things for better by means of a government, called " the kingdom of God", which will be headed by Jesus Christ. That kingdom will bring good government, freedom from pain, sorrow, hunger, sickness, and even death. Daniel 2:44; 7:13-14; Isaiah 9:6-7; Revelation 21:2-4. 11. The Bible say that faith in Jesus and obedience to him, as well as worshipping God with spirit and truth through Jesus Christ is the key to salvation. 12. "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead,.. Neither is there salvation in any other:for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:10-12. To lead someone to Christ, then, act in line with the following: 1. "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations.. then shall the end come." 2. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father..the Son..the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded..." 3. "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them"
I agree with Kathy. It is the Holy Spirt who convicts people and reveals Jesus. Jesus promised us who believe in him the Holy Spirt. The Holy Spirit works in us to conform us to the image of Jesus. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work then others will see Jesus. Do not be concerned about how you can lead someone to Jesus. When we stand before our Father I don't think he is going to say "How many people did you bring to my Son? He is going to say Matthew 25:34-40 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Just love others as Jesus does. When they see that they will want him as well
What joy we experience when we lead someone to Christ because we have been used by God. Yes, we don't do the work, the Holy Spirit does, but as those who have come to know Christ personally and love Him more than anyone in the world, we have the desire to tell others our testimony and the gospel. This is described as having fruit of being a good tree or being fishers of men. The Great Commission gives all Christ followers the command to go to all people making disciples (Christ followers), baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey all of Christ's commands. (The last words of Jesus in Matthew 28 before He ascended into heaven). It is an action command that we are equipped to do by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit in us initiates the desire for us to lead people to knowing Christ. As we walk by the Spirit, we will be given opportunities to share Christ and then it is up to the receiver of the gospel whether or not they receive Jesus through repentance and faith (God only knows who has been given to Christ-- John 17). We don't know who was chosen before their birth to belong to Christ and who wasn't. We need to pray for God to give us opportunities and to be able to see those who will be receptive to the gospel message. Yes, we don't know which ones will be convicted by the Holy Spirit and drawn into relationship (James 4:8 Draw close to God and He will draw close to you), but did any of the disciples keep quiet and not speak up? Actually when Pentecost (the receiving of the Holy Spirit happened) in Acts chapter 2, Peter immediately started sharing the truth of the gospel and telling them that they must repent of your sins and turn to God, and to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And the 3000 who believed what Peter said were baptized that day. There is an order of repentance first. Romans 10: 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?[c] And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. We know that the Word of God is the power that convicts a person of their sin and the Holy Spirit brings that person to repentance. Then in Acts 4:17-20 when Peter and John were told to stop talking about Jesus, they said that they would keep on obeying God and not stop telling all about Jesus. I look for those people that God is sending me to speak to who are hurting, going through a crisis and are humble. God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. I go to them. The Bible says that no one seeks God, no not one. (Romans 3:11) We have to be able to tell them that we and they are sinners all deserving hell because we have sinned against the one and only Holy God. That our hearts are deceitful and wicked (Jeremiah 17:9) and no one is good enough for heaven. I led a woman to Christ who was hurting, and she prayed for her own sins of sexual immorality, filthy language, idolatry of her husband and children and lying. She received the Holy Spirit and a new life in Christ. I can see that godly sorrow produces deeds of repentance that go along with a true confession AND forsaking of the sin that brings forgiveness. She now has a huge desire to get to know God better by reading the Bible for hours. That desire is evidence of a true repentance and faith that does not want to go against God anymore, but to obey His commands with all our hearts and to trust Him completely. The Holy Spirit is comforting her too (John 14:16 and 26, 15:26 & 16:7)! There are a lot of evangelism training sites online and local classes to get equipped.
You plant the seed and God will cause the increase. The best that you can is to give someone the opportunity to discover Jesus.
