ESV - 11 So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

God never does or permits anything without purpose or intent. Because God is sovereign over the universe, then as surely as He makes the rain to fall from heaven and bring forth food for the earth (Isaiah 55:10), His words (as found in His revelation to humanity in the Bible), intentions, and actions will be fulfilled or achieve their desired purpose, regardless of the greatest efforts that Satan, the world system that he controls, and humanity's fallen, sinful nature through which he works, may make to thwart it. In fact, even events that Satan intends for harm can be and are used by God for the ultimate benefit of His people (Romans 8:28).

God’s Word is powerful and mighty (Hebrew 4:12). By His Word all things are created. By His Word the impossible becomes possible (Matt. 8:8). Clearly the scriptures are not only a path for our lives (Psalms 119:105), but also a mighty mystical force given to us to bring others to a living relationship with Christ and bring Him glory through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Knowing and understanding God’s Word through the power of the Holy Spirit is an essential part of our spiritual growth and progressive sanctification. When we speak the Word, it is living and powerful. Never does it simply “go out” of our mouth and stop. It is a creative force that sets eternal actions in motion. When we use the Word to speak to others about Christ, a seed is planted that never dies. From that point forward, never will an individual be able to say they were not told about Christ’s plan of salvation. Like the parable of the seed Jesus spoke about in Matthew 13, some will germinate and grow, some will not. Some will be “watered” later and come to Christ, some will forever reject Him. He has given each of us free will to make this choice.

Isaiah 55:11 should remind us of the vital importance of not only reading the Word, but also hiding it in our hearts (memorization) and speaking it to others when we share Christ’s Love. God’s Word and His scriptures are wonderfully alive in the Holy Spirit.
