Worship is "to give honor, homage, reverence, respect, adoration, praise, or glory to a superior being." God demands worship because He and He alone is worthy of it. He is the only being that truly...

My short version answer is this: God tells us numerous times in His Holy Word that "only He is to be worshiped and praised, for only He is God" and "that He is a very jealous God, for only He is our creator and Lord of both heaven and Earth", and that "only He can redeem our very souls unto salvation". " For only He is GOD! "To Know God is to Love Him!" --- "To Love God is to Know Him!"--Andy--
God does not demand our worship for His benefit, but for ours. In his book Mere Christianity, C. S. Lewis offered the following insight on the subject from a human perspective when speaking of Pride (which Lewis called "The Great Sin"), and its opposing virtue, Humility: "We must not think Pride is something that God forbids because He is offended at it, or that Humility is something He demands as due to His own dignity -- as if God Himself were proud. "The point is, He wants you to know Him: wants to give you Himself. And He and you are two things of such a kind that if you really get into any kind of touch with Him you will, in fact, be humble -- delightedly humble, feeling the immense relief of having for once got rid of all the silly nonsense about your own dignity which made you restless and unhappy all your life. "He is trying to make you humble in order to make this moment possible: trying to take off a lot of silly, ugly, fancy-dress in which we have all got ourselves up and are strutting about like the little idiots we are, [and to allow us to experience] the relief, the comfort, of taking the fancy-dress off -- getting rid of the false self, with all its 'Look at me' and 'Aren't I a good boy?' and all its posing and posturing. To get even near it, even for a moment, is like a drink of cold water to a man in a desert."
We worship God because He Is..just because He is the supreme deity of all creation. We praise God for Who He Is..He is YHWH, King, Savior, Lord, Great I AM, Shepherd, etc. We thank God for what He has done...you finish this one based on what God has done in your life!
Worshiping god is a natural outpouring of the spirit within the Christian in sending His son to die for us and save us from hell and bring us to heaven. We praise and thank Him for giving us Jesus for our redemption, that while we were yet sinners Christ died for the unGodly. For the saved sinnner grace is everything. His mercy endures for ever. It is grace that taught our hearts to fear, and grace relieved our fears. We praise Him because our sins are gone as far as the east is from the west. We praise Him because He fullfilled the law for us being the righteousness of God for us sinners. We praise Him because we are now free from the old law of sin and death.
The scriptures give us answers to every question that we can devise with the word of God and stories where the word of God was put into action. If you read the story of Paul and Silas being thrown into prison and in chains we get an example of the power of praise and worship in their lives summoning the power of God to preform exploits in their behalf. Acts 16:16-40 An angel of the Lord came to the prison and removed their chains and opened the prison doors. Praising and worshipping the Lord frees us from chains we can not see or even have recognized yet. Praise and worship helps us draw closer to God. The bible clearly says, "Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness." The spirit of heaviness is depression. Praise and worship lifts and breaks the power of depression. Read Isaiah chapter 61 and note verse 3. Of course this is a very prophetic chapter that includes our Lord and our future in Him to come and in the now. Try praising and worshipping when you're depressed for yourself. Mount up with the wings of eagles, run and do not grow weary. You can run through a troop and leap over a wall. Yes, these are spiritual expressions of the power of praise and worship and being an overcomer in Him. Some scriptures can only be spiritually discerned with spiritual discernment given only by the Holy Spirit.
God loves us and wants us to see Him and be close to Him. When that happens, our natural response is to worship Him. It's for us.
I agree with Tim. God does not need our worship, praise... We need to worship, praise... for our benefit - so that we can be humble, grateful... God Bless
