The spirit of God is given to us when we believe the gospel of our salvation. The gospel is given many places, but First Corinthians 15:1-4 gives the gospel. Ephesians 1:13 says we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise when we believed the gospel of all grace. It says He is to the praise of Gods glory in the next verse.

The Holy spirit is the Christians comforter when the devil attacks us and accuses us. The spirit of God was first given to the new converts in Acts and was the beginning of the church age of grace instead of the old covenant of law works.

In the old testament the spirit could leave a person as with King Saul after he disobeyed God to many times.

David prayed after He committed adultery and murder, that the Holy Spirit would not leave him.

Under the new covenant it is the Holy Spirit in us that says I will never leave you or forsake you. We belong to God by the Holy Spirit that lives in us at the new birth. He is also our righteousness. He is Perfect and Holy. Philippians 3:9

He is also the one that convicts us of sin. But if we confess our sin we are cleansed from all sin and have fellowship with God. First John 1:9

The Holy Spirit is a person. The third person of the trinity and is always in agreement with the Father and Son. He is the one that makes us righteous before God. It is because He lives in us that we can not lose our salvation once we have accepted Jesus sacrifice for all our sin.

He is the one that awakens us to look forward to the coming of the Lord in the clouds as there is a special crown given to those who are looking forward to His coming for the church at the end of the church age when we will be caught up to meet the Lord in the clouds before the tribulation.

He is the one that leads us in to all truth in the word of God. First Corinthians 2:14. We can only divide the word of God rightly by the Spirit as the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God because they are foolishness to them.

Until we receive the spirit through the new birth we are in darkness. The spirit can only come to us by believing the gospel of all grace. Ephesians 2:8-9 We receive the Spirit when we believe the gospel of our salvation by faith in Christ alone without works. Romans 4:5

James refers back to Abraham showing that our good works are the result of salvation and not the cause of it. Romans 4:1-2 We are saved and get the Holy Spirit the same way Abraham did by faith alone without works.

When we are so troubled as to not know what to pray for, the Holy Spirit prays for us perfectly with words that can not be uttered which brings our petitions perfectly to the father.

It is the person and work of the Holy Spirit in us that keeps us from apostasy of believing other gospels which are no gospels at all. Galatians 1:8-9 It keeps us from all forms of apostasy in the perverted gospels. There is only one gospel, it is the gospel of all grace to save sinners by faith alone in what Jesus did for us in His finished work on the cross. Plus nothing. Those that have been born of the Spirit know that those preaching another gospel will be accursed. They are damned to hell. They always add works to grace. They are accursed. Or they believe that Jesus was just a good teacher. Or they do not believe in the virgin birth of Jesus. Or they do not believe that it is the blood of Jesus that covers us from all sin. Or many other things that deceive many.

There are many other things He accomplishes in us. So many that we can not possibly know them all.
