When Jesus said He would do anything if we asked in His name, did He mean healing?

Does this talk about healing?

John 14:14

ESV - 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Does the verse pertain to healing exclusively? No. Is it inclusive in the context of the statement? Yes. Go back to Joh 14:12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

Did Jesus heal a blind man and a withered hand? Yes. Did he raise a dead man? Yes. Did His death pay your sin debt and mine? Yes

What does "whoever believes in me" mean? All believers. Therefore. There is no indication of a limiting of instruction to the audience present at that moment.

Did Jesus promise the Holy Spirit to just those present? Joh 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, If He limited the Spirit to just those few men, then why "forever"?

The verse is not a stand alone statement about healing but the way the question is asked about it screams of the importance of reading scripture in context. It also does not exclude the topic of healing.

The verse is about a supernatural power and resource in a fallen depraved world available to those who keep the Lord's Word. That power is the same as the power that Jesus displayed during His earthly ministry and would include healing.

To understand the Lord's statement I believe that we need to back up and consider the chapter 13. What was the occasion? Who was His audience? He had just finished washing the disciples feet. I personally do not believe this statement was universal but to a specific group, the disciples.

If we read on through John 15 it becomes more apparent. Notice useage of the word "ye" and "you" in the connecting passages.

God told us that we would go to many things here on earth and that it would be our faith in Christ that would heal us. Our greatest gift, is the gift of salvation. We will be new creatures with new bodies and there will be a new heaven on a new earth that will be prepared for us. We must stand strong, be faithful to Christ without compromise.

Mark 16
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

This passage clearly portrays the spiritual gifts that each believer has been given. Someone may have a different gift than I, but 1 Corinthians 12 further expounds upon spiritual gifts. It also states that even though Christians’ gifts vary, we are still one body. Just as a physical body, we need all of our “body parts” to function properly. If someone has the gift of healing, then through the power of the Holy Spirit we may perform our God given gifts. If someone doesn’t possess the healing gift, then follow the commands of James 5:14 with Holy Oil.

God is our Father, He "is love" and if we, as human, imperfect and sinful men, can love our children and would provide for them all they would ever ask for or need, then how can we expect our Heavenly Father, who has no evil in him, to not do everything in His power to provide us with healing and freedom from all oppression?

God's infallible Word states that "God cannot lie", so when God tells us that through Jesus we have all power over the devil, and that He has "blessed us with every spiritual blessings in christ Jesus...", and that "To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust."

We must read with Word "with childlike faith" or else we cannot enter the kingdom of God. God tells us that "it will be unto you as you believe." So for all who choose to believe that God was referring to "spiritual" healing and that our full healing will be in Heaven, then that is what you will receive.

I was given less than a year to live in 2013, diagnosed with Clear cell sarcoma, no treatments. I turned to the Word, which told me that Jesus bore all sickness and disease on His body (Matthew 8:17 and Isaiah 53:4, so that we would be "delivered from the dominion of darkness and translated into the kingdom our His beloved Son." Colossians 1:13, that "By His wounds I was healed." 2 Peter 5:7 I decided then, that if I claimed to believe in God, then unless I believed His Word above all else, then I was calling God a liar.

I spent the next 4 years consumed in my Bible, took every Word as truth. Soon God began to confirm everything I was reading, and His spirit taught me just how true these Words were, but the only way to receive was through FAITH. It is impossibly hard to have Faith that God had healed me while experiencing constant pain and seeing scans with physical evidence of disease. Then one day God spoke to me, telling me to forget the scans, "walk by faith, not by sight."2 Corinthians 5:7 and "more blessed is he who believes and doesn't see, than he who has seen" John 20:29, and that if I put all my faith solely in Him, and not in the physical, that He would guide me to be able to have God's kind of faith and be healed.

Days later, a woman prayed over me and all my pain completely left. I experienced such a divine healing, as chains of death floated away, I knew God had fulfilled His promise. I have been cancer free ever since. Luke 1:45 "blessed is she who believes that the Lord would fulfill His promises."

If you want to experience all God has for you, then put your Faith in Him and His Word. Your life will never be the same. "Without faith it is impossible to please God". Hebrews 11:6
