A very straight forward and simple statement from our Lord. "Simply let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'No', 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one" (Matthew 5:37). This can be a huge struggle in highly corrupt political environments in which we operate today where spin has come to replace the truth. However, that is the challenge that the Lord has set us.
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:3 Someone once said, "Some are honest only because they have never had opportunity to be dishonest." But there is a better way. One of my favorite verses about honesty is Philippians 4:8 --King James Version (KJV) " Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." "The integrity of the honest keeps them on tract." Proverbs 11:3
