Assuming Moses' authorship of the first five books of the Bible, some commentators are of the opinion that the words cited in the question were added by a later writer, in the same way that Moses would not have been able to record his own death and its aftermath in Deuteronomy 34:5-12, where there is similar "bragging" about Moses and his place in the history of Israel. However, even if Moses wrote the words in Numbers 12:3 about himself, I would say that it would not discredit him, since he was also honest and forthcoming about his faults, such as his disobedient failure to circumcise his son (for which God sought to kill him (Exodus 4:24-26)), and his hot temper, which required him to flee from Egypt (Exodus 2:11-15); which also caused him (even though he was motivated by righteous anger on God's behalf) to impetuously say and do prideful and disobedient things that God was not pleased with; and which even resulted in God not allowing him to enter Canaan (Numbers 20:2-13).
