On the surface it’s been taken as to taking God's name in vain (swearing by using his name verbally in light hearted matters or irrelevantly). This can be true, but I believe the true meaning is that we don’t live God's name in vain, ie that we say we are God's people but we live like the world; we say we are Christians by mouth but our life style says otherwise. Do not take on the name of God and live it in vain.

Thanks guys

I never thought of it that way before, but now I can see how you can be right. By "irrelevantly" did you mean "irreverently"?
