The Israelites were sent not only to inherit the promise land, but also displace those who lived there and completely destroy them. A few generations before Israel's enslavement, God said that Abraham would displace these certain people groups from the land. On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.” Genesis 15:18-21 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/gen.15.18-21.NKJV When God called Moses He mentioned these races: So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. Exodus 3:8 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/exo.3.8.NKJV After the exodus, spies were sent to scout the land and examine it's threats, the main people groups were these: The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” Numbers 13:29 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/num.13.29.NKJV As one can see there are similarities between the people groups. If you were wondering if these people groups still exist, it is safe to say that most of them no longer exist. Some argue that the Palestinian Arabs are descendants of some of these people groups whom Israel may not have killed.
The Bible indicates in Exodus 1:5 that Israel originally consisted in its entirety of seventy persons who went down to Egypt. During the time (400 years) that Israel was in Egypt and grew into a large nation, the land that they would eventually inhabit in Palestine was occupied by the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites, all of whom were nations descended from Noah's son Ham, whom Noah had cursed in Genesis 9:25 for having seen Noah lying drunk and naked in his tent in the time after the Flood.
