If I am interpreting the question correctly, the places that come most readily to my mind in response to the question (in addition to the references cited in the question itself to the Promised Land as an enduring place of rest) are: Eden: a type of the eternal existence of believers in an unending state of blessedness in God's presence, as represented in the New Testament by the new earth and new Jerusalem referred to by John in Revelation 21:1-2, and as also indicated by the presence of the Tree of Life mentioned in Revelation 22:2. The mountain in Moriah (regarded as the same place where Solomon's temple was subsequently built) where God commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering, which was a type of Calvary or Golgotha, an elevated site where God would offer His own Son as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity Egypt: a type of the bondage of humans to sin until released through faith in Christ's atoning death and resurrection (as symbolized by the sacrifice of the lamb at Passover) Sinai: a place symbolizing knowledge of God's Law and recognition/conviction of individual sin (Exodus 20), as well as of the severity of the judgment against rebellion or unbelief (Numbers 13-14). Babylon: a type of amorality and opposition to Christianity, used in the New Testament as a representation of the Roman Empire (as in Revelation 18:2), and even up until the present day as a symbol of licentiousness or irreligious worldliness; and also a type of exile or punishment for sin, and the separation of humans from God until restored to fellowship with Him through faith in Christ
The Bible provides examples of “type” and “antitype.” Type is symbol representing an antitype, or fulfillment of the symbol. The antitype is always greater than the type. God gave us types to explain the larger future antitype – OT examples or shadow of things to come. Noah’s Flood & Sodom (Gen 6:11- 7:23; 19:12-29). God’s judgment with water and fire are type of end of time judgment - Noah’s flood and Sodom’s fire are types - Jesus’ return and judgment at the end of time is the “antitype” (Matt 24:37-42; Luke 17:24-31) Israel’s Exodus from Egypt is a type. God called Israel out of Egypt’s slavery and idolatry to take them to the promised land. At the end of time, God will take His people out of the spiritual Babylonian slavery and idolatry to be with Him forever (Rev 18:1-2,4,8) – this is the antitype. The context of the final plagues makes the connection with Israel’s exodus even more clear. The Two Laws 1.The Ten Commandments, written by God in stone, signifying its eternal nature. 2. The Ceremonial Law, written by Moses on a parchment (temporary in nature) regarding the sacrificial system that was done away with after Jesus’ sacrifice. Passover (Ex 12:3-11,46-47). On the 10th day (Nisan 10) Israel had to take a perfect lamb into their homes. Four days later, (Nisan 14) they had to kill the lamb in the evening and put the blood on the door’s posts. Then roast the lamb and eat all the meat without breaking any bones. Four days before Christ’s death on the cross, the Sanhedrin met and condemn Jesus to death - it was on Nisan 10. During this time the Passover lamb was being set aside. Four days later, Nisan 14, Jesus was crucified (Mark 15:34-37). On the 9th hour (3 pm) Jesus died on the cross – at the exact same time the Passover lamb was to be scarified. As the priests were killing the Passover lamb, just as Moses' law said, the true Lamb of God was dying on the cross – not a single boned was crushed - type met the antitype. The Passover lamb’s sacrifice was fulfilled in Jesus (Matt 5:17). With Jesus’ death, the Passover sacrifice was fulfilled. From that moment on, the temple sacrifice of a lambs on Nisan 14 would no longer be necessary (Mark 15:37-38). Finally, the Feast of First Fruits, (Nisan 16) pointed to Jesus’ resurrection (Matt 27:52-53).
I agree with Tim Maas with all his listings including Babylon as a type: Babylon, a type of enmity to Jesus Christ. I would also add the reference, Revelation 17:5, to what Tim had said, Revelation 18:2. But I would also add these 2 more types: The promised land is a type of rest in Christ (Hebrews 4:8-11) Jerusalem is a type of the glorified church Hebrews 12:22-23. Compare Revelation 21:1-3.
