Yes, I know of a church in Wisconsin that allows it. It is for the safety of the other members of the church to defend against violent attackers with weapons intent on killing one or more of its members.

Of course, we can all pray to be delivered from attackers, but another measure of defense is to be ready for the sudden, unannounced taking of innocent lives (of the sheep).

I humbly submit for your consideration a simple question: Could you, a MORAL AMBASSADOR of God's kingdom, idly permit a murderer or group to go about their felonious business without endeavoring to stop their handy work in any way? (Luke 9:24; Luke 12:4)

It would be pollyannaish to foolishly depend or believe that law enforcement or others are protecting you for they're busy protecting themselves at the moment, but do leave a message, friend. So it is quite reasonable to perhaps depend upon a combat veteran or other trained person you may have broken bread with. One who might even know your kids' NAMES in stressful moments should they arise. (1 Samuel 17:24)

Europe a few years ago foolishly imported a seventh century theology of conquest even though they have no right to self defense. We are seeing the quite predictable consequences to polite society, when those of good conscience display any foolish cowardice in the face of true evil. (Proverbs 22:3; Proverbs 27:12)

(Abram) Abraham arms his 318 servants to hunt down violently attack and disperse then kills the four kings holding his nephew Lot captive.
(Genesis 14:11-24)

Bottom Line:
In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the option menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it it may sound for some.
(Psalms 149:6-7; Matthew 22:29)

Firearms and weapons do not limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason; they only limit the actions of those who would choose to do so by force. (Nehemiah 4:23; Psalms 149:8)

The true warrior fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. On this civilized path of conduct, it is your moral legal responsibility to obtain all the correct and proper weapon training for their correct legal usage in very stressful situations. (Galatians 4:16)

"Let your gun be your constant companion on all your walks."
~Thomas Jefferson

"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun." ~The Dalai Lama

I will give the same answer as I did for the question about teaching weapon safety classes at church. It applies to this question as well.

Yes. We need responsible gun owners who are trained to handle the weapon properly.

There is a commandment in Leviticus that translators/interpreters have a difficult time taking from Hebrew to English: Lev. 19:16

Compare these two translations:

NIV: "'Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor's life. I am the LORD.

NLT: “Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the LORD.

KJV: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the LORD.

In the first example - the NIV - you are to refrain from doing anything that would endanger your neighbor's life. That makes sense.

But in the second example - you are supposed to actively do something if your neighbor's life is under threat.

In the King James Version - what does it mean to "stand against the blood?"

Which one is it? According to most Jewish sources, you are not to idly stand by when your neighbor's life is threatened.

The Jewish Publication Society translates this verse as:
neither shalt thou stand idly by the blood of thy neighbor: I am the LORD.

Basically - to save a human life is the most important thing.

If your neighbor is threatened by someone with a gun - which is now commonplace in the United States - then someone with a gun must act to save the life of that person.

If a gunman enters a church - then everyone has a responsibility to stop that person from killing another human being. But how do you stop a bad guy who has a gun if you don't? You need a good guy -someone who would choose NOT to shoot someone - to stop the guy who wants to shoot someone.

We can say the same thing about WWII and the German genocide of the Jewish people (and others). If the Germans have a tank - then we need a weapon to stop a tank. If they have planes trying to kill people - then we need something to stop a plane.

As long as your heart is not filled with anger and a desire to inflict harm on others - then learning to use a weapon is a good thing.

As long as there is evil in the world - with weapons - we must have good people to stand up and know how to protect our neighbor.
