What is so "wise" about the "four small things on the earth" (Proverbs 30:24)?

Proverbs 30:24 Lexham English Bible
24 "There [are] four small things on the earth, and they [are] {exceedingly wise}:"

Proverbs 30:1 - 33

AMP - 1 THE WORDS of Agur son of Jakeh of Massa: The man says to Ithiel, to Ithiel and to Ucal: 2 Surely I am too brutish and stupid to be called a man, and I have not the understanding of a man [for all my secular learning is as nothing].

In comparison to other creatures (and by God's design), they do things by instinct for their own preservation that "higher" beings would consider wise or prudent. This benefits us in three ways: by teaching us to imitate the providence of these creatures; by deterring us from being proud of our own wisdom, because we are either equaled or exceeded in that respect by such "dumb" creatures in the wise conduct of their affairs; and by directing us in our own search for wisdom to seek the same God who inspires such wisdom even in irrational animals.

Size and personal power are neither here nor there. What is important is that you have a heart for God. Then you live with the Spirit on your walk through this life. You are hidden in the ROCK, and will spend eternity with Jesus in heaven.
