I believe the best way to understand Judiasm v/s Christianity is to compare Law to Grace. Realistically, there is no comparison! I can't take credit for the following work, it isn't mine. I read it several years ago in a book and typed it out on my PC. Wish I could remember the author's name because I would certainly give him credit. To God be the glory! 1. Under Law there was a dividing veil (Ex. 26.33) Grace brought a rent veil (Heb. 10:19) 2. Law blots out the sinner (Ex. 32:33) Grace blots out the sinner’s sin (Col. 2:14) 3. The Law curses the sinner (Gal. 3:10) Grace covers the sinner (Rom. 4:7) 4. The Law cries out, “Do and live!” (Deut. 8:1) Grace cries out, “It is done! It is finished!” (John 19:30; John 1:12) 5. The Law cries out, “Every mouth stopped” (Rom 3:19) Grace invites, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus (Rom. 10:9) 6. The Law showed favor to the good (Prov. 12:2) Grace shows mercy and favor to the ungodly (Eph. 2:1-6) 7. The Law was outwardly graven upon stone (2 Cor. 3:3) Grace is graven inwardly, Christ in you (Col. 1:27; Col. 3:3; 2 Cor. 3:3) 8. The Law says, “He added no more” (Deut. 5:22) Grace assures us, “Hath spoken by his Son” (Heb. 1:2) 9. Law is inexorable in its demand (Josh. 7:25) The Grace of God is inspirational in its blessing (2 Cor. 5:17) 10. The Law brings judgment (Rom. 5:18) Grace brings justification (Rom. 3:24) 11. Law cries out, “Keep the commandments-all of them in minute detail” (James 2:10) Grace assures us we are kept by the power of God (1 Peter 1:5) 12. The Law demands love (Deut 6:5) The Grace of God exhibits love (John 3:16) 13. The Law moves the sinner to sin (Rom. 7:8) The Grace of God removes sin from the sinner (Matt. 1:21) 14. According to the Law, nearness to God is impossible (Ex 20:21) In Grace, nearness to God is guaranteed (Eph. 2:13) 15. The Law demands obedience----or no blessing (Deut. 28:1-9) Grace brings obedience because of the blessing (1 John 4:19) 16. The Law cries out, “Stone the prodigal” (Deut. 21:20-21) Grace cries out, “Put the best robe on the prodigal….kill the fatted calf! Let us feast and be merry!” (Luke 15:20-23) 17. Law brings death (Deut. 21:22-23). Grace gives to us the quietness and assurance of peace (Rom. 5:1). 18. 18. The Law retaliates (Ex. 21:24). The Grace of God redeems (Gal. 3:13). 19. The Law demands sanctification (Lev. 11:44). Grace bestows sanctification (I Cor. 1:30). 20. Because of the Law, three thousand were slain (Ex. 32:28).Because of the Grace of God, three thousand were saved (Acts 2:41). 21. The Law is unsatisfying to the conscience (Heb. 10:1-2).The Grace of God is unfailing in its forgiveness and remedy for sin (Heb. 9:12-14; Heb. 10:10-14). 22. The Law is the voice of consternation (Heb. 12:18-21).The Grace of God is the voice of covenant, blessing, peace and assurance (Heb. 12:22-24). 23. We are "blessed with all spiritual blessings" (Eph. 1:3).We are called the sons of God (I John 3:1).We are delivered from the wrath to come (I Thess. 1: 10). We are the elect of God (I Thess. 1:4). We are forgiven by God (Eph. 1:7) for Christ's sake (Eph. 4:32).We are saved by the grace of God (Eph. 2:5). We are an holy priesthood (I Peter 2:5). We are hidden in Christ (Col. 3:3).We are justified in His sight without works (Rom. 3:28). We are kept for Jesus Christ (Jude 1). Life eternal is given to us by Jesus (John 10:28).
The difference between any religion and Christianity is DO AND DONE. RELIGIONS tell a person do this and keep doing it. Jesus Christ came and did all that needed to be done. Thus, if we trust in Him and what He did, then righteousness is accounted to us through Him.
Christianity supports all the works and lessons taught by Jesus, which is the word of God. Jesus referenced so much of the Old Testament, as well as how to apply it. He came down as the living example of all of Gods laws. It was also the beginning of the church, which prior to Jesus did not exist. Yes Judaism had a temple, but the church was founded on and by Jesus for all, Jews and Gentiles, individually and together. Where Judaism did not then and does not now, support any of the teachings of Jesus. The Jewish leaders then claimed all who were spreading the word of Jesus to be blasphemers. Even when Jesus and the apostles showed full support of the mosaic law and Old Testament. So Jesus showed true love, which is what God is. Jesus emulated the great commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and he has taught Christians to do the same.
Christianity is like nothing else. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, and we all die, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord The GIFT of God is eternal life. Not a reward for good behavior, but a free GIFT. First John 2:2 For He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that WHOSOEVER, BELIEVETH in Him, should not perish, but HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. Jesus is the GIFT of God. John 3:18 Believers can no longer be condemned to hell. Since Jesus paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world, then He paid for all my sins. Since HE paid for all my sins, I can not go to hell because I have no sins to pay for. The GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE.. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, First Corinthians 15:1-4, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to EVERYONE THAT BELIEVETH, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Since eternal life is a free gift, we have nothing to boast in. Romans 3:26-28 For He is the just and the justifier of them that believe in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? By the law of works? Nay, but by the law of FAITH. Therefore we conclude a man is justified by FAITH apart from the deeds of the law. You can not boast in a free GIFT that we did nothing for. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. The GIFT of God is eternal life. A GIFT is paid in full by the GIVER. Once we receive the GIFT of eternal life we have it forever because it is eternal life. It is impossible to earn eternal life, and it is impossible to lose eternal life. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, (John 1:12) that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.
