The Lord's Prayer is a prayer the Lord Jesus taught His disciples in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. Matthew 6:9-13 says, "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be you...

The incorrectly titled "Lord's Prayer" was and is a guide to praying (as it were); the disciples did not ask "Lord, teach us a prayer?", but "Teach us to (how i.e. in what manner) to pray?" If there is a Lord's prayer i.e. one that Yeshua (Jesus) did pray, it would be found in the Gospel of John chapter 17.
Many affectionately but incorrectly refer to it as a prayer The Lord prayed but as previously stated, it was a prayer outline. "Forgive us our debts". Christ as eternal God had no need of forgiveness, he is impeccable. Hebrews 7:6 "For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;" "Lead us not into temptation" Christ was tested, tried and proven in Matthew 4 but never tempted to sin. James 1:13-14 "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed." "Deliver us from evil" Christ stated in John 14:30 "Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me."
Why indeed do we call this Lords Prayer when in fact it is Our disciples prayer. And it is amazing how Jesus tells us we are allowed to call His Almighty Dare Not Even Speak His Name JWYH Father "Our Dad, I can speak into Heaven from earth, let heaven come now here on earth so You can act through me to do your will. I trust you daily to care for me, forgive my rebel heart but only when I forgive others. Please don't test my faith more than I can bear and put a ring of protection around my family. Jesus is telling us that we are in His family circle, His Great Dad is now our Papa
The Lord's Prayer : Matthew 6:9-13 "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. May God be with you All, may He cover you all and relieve you of all your worries and stress. Trust in the Lord and spiritually he will lead you All. Have a blessed end to the week Stay blessed Love you All Xx
Great revolution and promotion in relationship of man and God was emerged in the teaching of Jesus; man who was a servant of the LORD God in the Old Covenant, became children of God (John 1:12-13) in the New Covenant, and as children of God, man may call the LORD:God "Our Father in heaven " (Matthew 6:9); consequently Jesus called his believers and followers "a friend" (John 15: 13-17). As children of God we will have an authority by seeking, asking and knocking the door of the kingdom of God our Father on this planet earth where we may live an abundant life (Matthew 6:9-13; 33), gaining salvation both on earth and on eternal life after we die, as Jesus said: " I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?". It can be said, that the Lord's prayer is an essence of Jesus's teaching how salvation for the world may gained; and as Jesus said :"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14: 6), we should pray it.
It has been established what the "Lord's prayer" is by others, but there are some important points that have not yet been addressed. The larger context of what is happening at this point of Christ's earthly ministry is helpful. We obviously know that Christ was not yet crucified and that Israel had not yet received their promised earthly kingdom. The Old Testament prophecy that must ensue prior to them receiving their kingdom and after the death of their Messiah details extreme hardship that must first be "endured" by them. Let's look at parts of the prayer and detail the relevance of it to national Israel versus us today. Luke 11:2 - They are to pray for their kingdom to come (to earth). That stands to reason as they will be going through times of great tribulation and will be very eager for those days to be shortened (Matt 24:22), and for the times of their kingdom to begin. Remember what the disciples asked Christ prior to His ascension in glory? Acts 1:6 "When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?" Next, in Luke 11:3, they are asking God to feed them. This is a literal request for manna (bread) to fall from the sky! They will not have easy access to food while awaiting their Messiah to return and for their kingdom to finally come. Luke 11:4 - It is CRITICAL to notice and understand why this would not be in a prayer from US TODAY. When Christ returns to earth, Israel will enter the Acts 3:19 "times of refreshing". Their post-cross sins will THEN be "blotted out". We however, in this time known as God's "dispensation of grace" (Eph 3:2), have already been forgiven of ALL of our sins past, present, and future. You may be asking "what's wrong with us asking God to forgive us of our sins?" Well, what is God's requirement for salvation TODAY? 1 Cor 15:1-4 "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" We are saved by belief that "Christ died for our sins"! If we are asking God to forgive us, then we are essentially declaring that we do not recognize what He did for us on the cross...which is the requirement for salvation! We overlook the shed blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins (Col 1:14, Rom 5:8, Gal 1:4)! Have you ever noticed that Paul never mentions how we Gentiles can have our sins forgiven in any of his 13 epistles? This was the main point of Paul's ministry to us, that ALL of OUR sins ARE forgiven! We are saved upon belief in this! Are you constantly wondering if God will have forgiven you of all your trespasses by the time of your death? Are you concerned that you may not have done enough works in your lifetime for God to accept you? If so, please carefully re-read Paul's 'good news' above (1 Cor 15:1-4). God isn't judging your sins or looking at YOUR works for salvation. He is looking at whether you have accepted the fact that Jesus Christ died for the forgiveness of your sins and that He alone completed all the work that God requires ON YOUR BEHALF. Once you believe this THEN work for God, but first remove any faith (or lack thereof) in yourself and place it ALL on Jesus Christ! The last part of Luke 11:4 is Israel asking God to keep them from temptation and evil. Not as though God would lead them there, but as assurance that they will not go there astray. Lastly, Paul says that we today do not even know how to properly pray (Rom 8:26), but that thanking God is key (Eph 5:20), being thankful for what He did through Christ out of God's love for us!
