The Bible nowhere states explicitly that partaking of the Lord's Supper must be preceded by baptism. However, the principle that this is the biblical pattern is clearly established from the record in Acts 2 verses 40-41 where it states "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."(KJV). Church membership is thus an established practice and admission to it commences on the confession of faith in Christ and the public declaration of desiring to follow Him is made through baptism.
