The miraculous gifts of the Spirit are for every age. Christians need these gifts and we never stopped praying for these gifts. Pope John XXIII prayed in 1962, "Lord, renew Your wonders in this our day, as by a new Pentecost. Grant to Your Church that, being of one mind and steadfast in prayer with [name omitted], and following the lead of blessed Peter, it may advance the reign of our Divine Savior, the reign of truth and justice, the reign of love and peace. Amen." In this age when the enemies of the Church are spreading rampant, Christians need the gifts of the Holy Spirit more than ever. The primary purpose of the miraculous gifts is NOT to prove that the gospel was true, but to strengthen the Church. (1 Corinthians 14:12)
