When Sarah and Abraham cast Hagar out, she was friendless. The Bible has much to say about friendlessness. Moses exhorts God's people in Dt. 31:6, "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee. He will not fail thee or forsake thee." Next, in Psalm 25, an alphabetical acrostic prayer for God's saving help, in verse 16, David prays, "Turn Thee unto me, and have mercy upon me: for I am desolate and afflicted." (probably illness and/or related enemy attacks)--Psa 25:16 Thirdly, Asaph prays, "Nevertheless I am continually with Thee: Thou has holden me by my right hand" (Ps 73:23). Fourthly, because Paul was friendless, he testifies in 2 Tim. 4:16-17, "At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God [intercession] that it may not be laid to their charge" (4:16). "Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me, that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion (4:17).
