Why did it have to be Jesus to die for the remission of the human sin? Why couldn't it have been another person?

For many of us are on relentless searches for alternative ways besides Jesus of how we can get to God. Why is there insistence that it is only through Jesus that we can meet the Father? Shall we find alternative ways of reaching God besides Jesus? 

John 8:21 - 27

ESV - ²¹ So he said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come. ²² So the Jews said, "Will he kill himself, since he says, 'Where I am going, you cannot come' ?
