What does it mean that the words spoken by Jesus are spirit and life?

John 6:63

ESV - 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

John 6:53 "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily I say unto you, Except you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His Blood, you have no life in you." I think this refers to our trusting in the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross.

John 6:54 "Who so eats My Flesh, and drinks My Blood has eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day." I think this tells that we are to have total faith. We are reassured of resurrection.

John 6:55 "For My Flesh is meat indeed, My Blood is drink indeed." Refer to Luke 9:23 - " And He said to them all, if any man will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me." This means that indeed we must daily focus on The Cross!

John 6:56 " He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood dwells in Me and I in him"

John 6:57 " As the Living Father has sent Me and I live BY the Father, so he who eats Me, even he shall live by Me." Proclamation that Jesus had the Holy God within. The believer shall then possess the "Life" by always looking to the Blessed Cross.

John 6:58 "This is the Bread that came down from Heaven not as your father's did eat Manna and are dead he who eats this Bread shall live forever."

He taught these things in the Synagogue at Capernaum, and many did not understand. Even His disciples questioned what He meant. Jesus asked, John 6:61..."Does this offend you?"

John 6:62,63 " What and if you shall see the Son of Man ascend up where He was before? It is the Spirit Who quickens, the flesh profits nothing the words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life."

Jesus is telling them, that if they cannot accept His Death, how will they ever accept His Resurrection? If you could actually eat and drink from my human body, that could not save your soul. The SPIRIT given words that come through Jesus are the saving Grace for all who have faith, and daily look to the Blessed Lord for nourishment.

Sadly some reject, the hope is that all would accept the quickening of the SPIRIT'S words.

Meditating the Words in the Bible, we were created by God with three distinct parts: spirit, soul and body (Deuteronomy 6: 5; Matthew 22; 37; 1 Thessalonians 5: 23).

As Jesus told Nicodemus: " I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he/she is born of water and and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, You must be born again." (John 3: 5-7).

Jesus meant that there is no direct connection between the two. Spirit is spirit and flesh is flesh (John 6: 63); in other words, we cannot contact our spirit through our five senses or through our mind, will or emotions.

By believing, getting baptized and following the Words of Jesus, (Mark 16: 16), we have a new born Spirit living in us with the power of giving us salvation and eternal life, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. (Ephesians 1: 18-20).
