In this verse, I believe that Paul is expressing the hope that the members of the Christian church at Thessalonica would be open to God's direction and control of their hearts (their thoughts or emotions) in such a way, or to such an extent, that, in their actions, they would then exhibit the same type of love toward others that God had shown toward them, and also that they would be as firm and unshakable in their faith, devotion, and obedience to God as Jesus Himself had been during His earthly life and ministry.
