I'd assume he did because if my parents tried to kill me on an alter after making me carry a load of wood up a mountain I'd think they were crazy unless I actually heard God say the words he told Abraham. Are there any insights in the Bible somewhere indicating Issac heard God also?

I see no reason or indication that Isaac would not also have heard the angel of the LORD (perhaps the pre-incarnate Christ) addressing Abraham (although Isaac apparently had not been aware of God's original instruction to Abraham to offer him as a sacrifice (Genesis 22:7-8)). The angel is described as calling to Abraham from heaven (Genesis 22:11), rather than speaking in some less obvious or audible way (which was apparently indicative of the degree of urgency involved, since Abraham was just about to kill Isaac). On other occasions when God the Father or Jesus was recorded as speaking directly from heaven, those other than the person being addressed heard a voice also (John 12:28-29; Acts 9:7). Genesis 26:24 subsequently records God speaking to Isaac (although perhaps in a dream). I would say that, if He spoke to Isaac on that occasion, there would have been no reason why He would have somehow prevented Isaac from hearing the angel in Genesis 22:11.
