Humans require sleep, but God does not. God never sleeps (Psalm 121:4). The statement of God resting on the seventh day of creation does not imply a state of unconsciousness. It means that God had finished the creative work of the first six days described in Genesis 1; and ceased (or rested) from that work (but not from consciousness or awareness) on the seventh day as a model for the ratio between rest and work by humans for their benefit.
