The Bible contains many expressions regarding God's protection of His followers, but those followers still live in a fallen world where Satan and his demonic forces are very active. God certainly can and does intervene to protect us in ways that are both readily identifiable, and also that we may never even be aware of in this life. He is also noted in Romans 8:28 as making all things (both good and bad from a temporal perspective) work together for the good of those who love Him. However, that "good" may not necessarily correspond to our limited perception of what it should be. Ultimately, the greatest "good" for God's followers is being able to spend eternity in His presence, which (as Paul stated in Romans 8:38-39) is something that no power in heaven or earth can take away from them. But that is not a "guarantee" that God's followers will be protected from all identifiable dangers in this world or this life. Our requests for that protection must always be conditioned (as Jesus prayed in Gethsemane in Luke 22:42) by acceptance of God's will, whatever that might entail. And, in fact, Jesus told His followers in John 16:33 that, in this world, they WOULD have trouble. But, immediately after that, He also told them to nevertheless be of good cheer, because He had overcome the world.
The lord is equally disposed to care for all living beings; the lord is neither inimical nor partial to anyone. In whatever way people surrender to the lord the lord loves them accordingly. So, the devotees who worship the lord with love reside in the lord and the lord resides in them. The lord protects the righteous, annihilates the wicked, and establishes the principles of righteous living, age after age.
Great question, Scott! God promises to rescue and sustain the righteous when they fall. (Psalm 34:19: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all."--; Psa 37:24; Pr 24:16: "For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity."; Mic 7:8: "Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me."). It is when I fail that God promises to rescue and susstain me, that is protecting me. But I must call out to Him for help in times like these.
