19 “Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets
    to a rich pastureland,
I will chase Edom from its land in an instant.
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?
Who is like me and who can challenge me?
And what shepherd can stand against me?”

Jeremiah is referring to thick forest-like vegetation that grew along the banks of the Jordan River that almost had the character of a jungle, in which animals such as lions, leopards, and wolves (as also referenced in Jeremiah 5:6) could live. When the flooding of the river drove these beasts from their habitats, they would prey on domestic flocks that were grazing in the verdant pasturelands located farther from the river..
