Why would anyone offer a "bribe" to a man for his wife’s favors (Proverbs 6:32–35)?

NIV
He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse a bribe, however great it is.

Proverbs 6:35

ESV - 35 He will accept no compensation; he will refuse though you multiply gifts.

The bribe of which the passage is speaking is not being offered to the woman's husband before the commission of adultery, but afterward.

Solomon is advising the young man to whom he is speaking never to commit adultery with another man's wife, because, when the woman's husband finds out what is going on, he will be so determined to take vengeance on the man with whom his wife has been having an affair that no subsequent bribe (that is, no offer of money or material gifts) to the husband from that man will be sufficient to placate the husband. The wronged husband will be satisfied with nothing less than inflicting physical harm or death upon the man with whom his wife has committed adultery.

In today’s society, if a person has enough money and “clout,” he or she might be able to survive an adulterous scandal, but life is still never quite the same.
WW

This happened only once in my life. A man where I work was flirting heavily with a married woman, and once her husband found out, he threatened to take an ax and smash the front windshield of the adulterer's truck!

Remember God's warning in Numbers 32:23, which says, "But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out."
