Just from a personal standpoint, I have found that it is always much easier for me to memorize any material (not just Scripture) through repeatedly listening to it being spoken, rather than trying to memorize it only by reading it. From that standpoint, I would do a search for sources or websites where such recordings could be accessed, either online or through purchase.

(Even saying the words aloud yourself while reading them (in a setting where you can do so without disturbing others) might also aid in that regard.)

I would agree with Mr. Maas about listening to the desired Scripture verse/verses to memorize. I have found this helpful in that regard: ScriptureMemory.com (VerseLocker.com). The narrator reads the verse (you selected and entered) back to you repeatedly until you stop it. The site takes any version and will even read any additional comments you typed in or copied and pasted in.

Read Scripture out loud or write it down. "I have recited aloud
all the regulations you have given us" (Ps 119:13, NLT).

Reading out loud is a common tip for how to best memorize. It is one of the best memorization methods because it combines two learning styles: visual and auditory. Writing out the scriptures is another way to memorize because it targets two learning styles as well: visual and tactile.

Memorizer.me helps me by making the suggestion to read it aloud a few times before proceeding. It also helps by taking the first letter of each word and using this to help you commit God’s Word to memory. So does http://memorizenow.com/. Try it. It’s fun! It really is!

Try using initials (e.g. First Letters Verse Text
7. S T I C A S I H B W W R T N O T L O G 7. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
Psalms 20:7)

Enlist a partner to help you memorize. I once helped some young people in my church memorize- one teenage girl insisted she recite her verses sitting pretty high up in a tree. So as her pastor, I climbed up in the tree with her to listen and make sure she said all her weekly verses correctly! She did!

I would recommend a few steps:

1. start small - if you take on too much you may end up frustrated. God will help you grow into larger and larger portions.

2. Say it out loud - when you speak it out loud you are engaging multiple senses. This helps.

3. engage your body - walking or pacing back and forth is good. I will pace back and forth on my back porch. This engages your brain with something called "bi-lateral stimulation." Bi-lateral stimulation helps both halves of your brain stay engaged.

4. have someone help you. At the end of the day or week ask that person to help you by reciting the scripture to them.

5. give yourself some grace. If you can't remember what you memorized from last week - don't stress out or beat yourself up. If you've memorized it then God will help you recall it when you need it.

Have fun and watch the scripture open up in new and exciting ways.
