What does it mean that the Lord is "my portion"? (Lamentations 3:24)

To me, the thought being expressed here is similar to the usage of the same word in Numbers 18:20, where God told Aaron (as the man chosen to be the first high priest of Israel) that the Levites (the priestly tribe of which Moses and Aaron were members) would not have a land allotment in the Promised Land (as the other tribes of Israel did), because He Himself would be the tribe's portion.

Faith in Christ provides Christians so complete a satisfaction of their spiritual needs (which are of greater priority or importance than physical needs, since they address the eternal rather than the temporal) that they (like the Levites) have no need of a tangible inheritance. All their true and lasting happiness and blessedness derive from Him.
