What do our sins "deserve"? (Psalm 103:10)

The New Living Translation says, "9 He will not constantly accuse us,
    nor remain angry forever.
10 He does not punish us for all our sins;
he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve."

How does God accuse us? Through our conscience? Is that the only way?

Psalms 103:9 - 10

ESV - 9 He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. 10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.

Our sins deserve 3 types of death:

Spiritual death -- Genesis 2:17 ESV

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

The Hebrew wording of Genesis 2:17 allows for a time-lapse between the instantaneous spiritual death on that sad day of disobedience and the later physical death (which certainly did happen, just as God said, but for Adam, it was 930 years later). Answersingenesis.org

Physical death Acts 5:1-9. This is the case of Ananias and Sapphira.

Their punishment was death [Acts 5:9]. It was for their lying for sure (Rev. 21:8 “all liars … will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur”), and for their pride, possibly because they wanted to show off, and maybe for their disrespect for God, since they tested God. --Zec

Eternal death -- Matthew 25:41

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

Revelation 21:8 ESV
"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

The second death is reserved for unbelievers. Those who experience this death are all those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life.

"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars - their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death" (Revelation 21:8). NIV

Ezra 9:13, "And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, since You our God have punished us less than our inequities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this..."

Ezekiel 7:23-27 The punishment will fit the crime. God promised to do to them according to what they deserve. Judah had been bloodthirsty and God would send the Gentiles to possess their homes, defile the temple, and bring violence to their land.

In Luke chapter 7 Jesus sends out the 70 to labor for Him. In verse 7, He declares that the laborer is due wages. The same is repeated in 1Timothy 5:18.

Luke 3:14, "Likewise the soldiers asked him (John the Baptist), 'and what shall we do?' So he said to them, 'do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.'"

Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Notice the word gift! This gift is undeserved!

Isaiah 12:2, "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid..."

Revelation 22:12, "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to His work."

Psalm 28:4, "Give to them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavors; give them according to the word of their hands; render them what they deserve.."

I pray that one day (like David) all would acknowledge that there is only One that is good! All have sinned and can not earn salvation! God gives what we do not deserve when we accept Jesus as Lord and confess He alone is our righteousness!

Hear O Lord when I cry out to you, deliver me and take care of me.
