To me, mountains or mountainsides in the Bible have three symbolisms: as sources of strength (based on the rugged nature of their terrain); as places of refuge, solitude, or seclusion (to which those who are seeking those states may go); and as symbols of holiness (based on their elevation or altitude placing them figuratively "closer" to God).
