Why in 2 Corinthians does the scripture say that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life? Wouldn’t it make more sense to say, “swallowed up by death”?

2 Corinthians 5:4

NKJV - 4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.

The cited verse acknowledges the universal reality of death (which thus does indeed "swallow up" each of us at the end of our earthly lives). However, for believers in Christ, that death is itself subsequently "swallowed up" in victory -- the eternal victory over death that Jesus won through His resurrection, and that each believer will also gain through the eternal, imperishable bodies given to them because of their faith in Him (1 Corinthians 15:42-55).
