What or where is Zoan? Psalm 78:12 KJV
Psalms 78:12 “Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.”

By my understanding, Zoan (the name of which comes from a Sanskrit word meaning "stronghold") was a city on one of the branches of the Nile. (The Greeks called the city "Tanis", and it was also known as "Goshen", which was the area assigned to the descendants of Joseph and the rest of his extended family (the Israelites) following their migration to Egypt.) It was built seven years after the city of Hebron in Palestine (Numbers 13:22). It was the capital of Egypt under the Hyksos (shepherd kings), who ruled Egypt for more than 500 years. No trace of the original city remains, although many subsequent cities were built on its ruins.
