In my opinion, Christ's words were a warning against the activity of so-called "Judaizers" in the Christian church at Philadelphia, who were attempting to persuade the congregation's members that it was necessary to obey the Old Testament Jewish Law (in addition to having faith in Christ) in order to be saved.

Jesus was exhorting them to hold fast to the principle of salvation through faith in Christ alone, because (as indicated elsewhere in the New Testament -- especially in Paul's epistles to the Romans and Galatians -- works of the Law (apart from faith in Christ) are not capable of saving anyone, and if an individual is attempting to be saved by works, it nullifies or forfeits the individual's faith (Romans 3:20; Romans 3:28; Galatians 2:16; Galatians 2:21; Galatians 3:24; Galatians 3:11; Galatians 5:4).

Ron Rhodes in his ebook, 40 Days Through Revelation says this:

"“I am coming soon’” (Revelation 3:11): We do not know when this will occur, so we must always be ready, living in righteousness and purity (Titus 2:13-14). Jesus wants us to be passionate about doing the right thing.
(Titus 2:14). And saying the right thing (for that matter).

“‘Hold fast what you have’” (Rev. 3:11): Christ encouraged the believers to stand strong and not to give up or weaken in their resolve. 

“‘So that no one may seize your crown’” (Rev. 3:11): The rewards Christians will receive from Jesus at the judgment seat of Christ are often described as crowns (1 Corinthians 9:25 --"

All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize."; 2 Timothy 4:8 --"Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing"; James 1:12; 1 Peter 5:4). Christ exhorts these believers not to act in such a way as to forfeit their reward at the judgment seat of Christ."
