Was it impossible for Jeremiah to resist God's call (Jeremiah 20:9)?

9
But if I say, “I will not mention his word
or speak anymore in his name,”
his word is in my heart like a fire,
a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in;
    indeed, I cannot.

Jeremiah 20:1 - 18

NKJV - 1 Now Pashhur the son of Immer, the priest who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 2 Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

One of my cousins (with whom I was conferring over this question) says, "If you want to know what I think....NO....because once you accept JESUS....the HOLY SPIRIT...is inside of you...to will and to do HIS PURPOSE...you can run...like Jonah did...but GOD will keep convicting you...unless you were never really saved to beginning with...and then you better check your faith to make sure it is true....there are a lot of people who walk away from JESUS...and I believe they were never really saved...because when you really accept JESUS...you are never the same...every thing is NEW...a NEW CREATION IN CHRIST...if not you just have a religion...and who wants that...love you..."

I concur wholeheartedy with this conviction. I know I can't stop myself from voicing the Good News. I don't see how Jeremiah could have held himself back either. It's like bubbling up in your soul. You can't contain it. It must come out! Like Peter and John said, defending themselves before some Jewish religious leaders, "We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:20)

Jeremiah 1:4-10: "Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you were born, I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.'

“Then I said, 'Oh Lord God! I cannot speak: for I am a child.'

“But the Lord said to me, 'Do not say, I am a child: For you shall go wherever I send you, and you shall say the words I put in your mouth!

Be not afraid, for I am with you and I will deliver you.'"

Read 1 Corinthians 2:1-5. Paul proclaims power is absolutely in God's hands. On our own we can do nothing! Only divine sovereignty accomplishes what needs to be done.

King Solomon said in 1 Kings 3:7: "Lord my God, you have made your servant King in my father's place. Yet I am just a youth with no experience."

Moses was saved by God's grace as a baby. Moses grew up in a palace. Moses resisted God, but God is sovereign! Moses was to lead the Hebrews to the promised land.

John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus was born as Jesus forerunner at just the right time.

Jesus was sent into the world by God's design. There isn't anything that interferes with God's plans.

God is sovereign, always.

2 Corinthians 12:9; "My Grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness."

Grace was the message of Paul the Apostle. He was Saul, the prosecutor of Believers in Jesus Christ.

Could Jeremiah have refused? He tried. But God will have His way. Always.
