I look to the leadership in the church as long as they are looking to the head of the church, Jesus Christ. Truly there is no Godly reason to look for 'short-cuts' or 'new' paths in our walk in following the leaders He has placed in authority over us. In cases where there is an intentional disconnect in the body, a separation from the head which is the unfailing and supreme authority, then we are to continue to be 'connected' and obedient to the head, not to leadership that has clearly chosen disobedience as its new path. Let me add, we are to continually pray for our chosen leaders and be certain that we are not at anytime acting out of jealousy, envy or strife and giving them our full support as they follow God's will for His Church..
The only one who has spiritual authority over me is the lord Jesus who is the head of the ekklesia - called-out Assembly. Those who he gifts to be over-seer, pastor/teachers, etc., are authorized to bring those in the ekklesia up to spiritual maturity in the anointed one Jesus. However, they do not have spiritual authority over anyone in the ekklesia - the Assembly of God. All believers in the lord Jesus are priest, all have that same status before God in the anointed one Jesus, from the weakest brother/sister to those who are mature spiritually. That being said I should respect and support those whom the head of the ekklesai - the Assembly of God has given to guide and direct those in the Assembly to become more spiritually mature.
