What does it mean to take a thought captive?

2 Corinthians 10:5

NLT - 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

We were born with a sinful nature. It is "soulish," that is, consists of mind, will and emotions. That's where negative thoughts come from. Those of us who have been born again are inhabited by the Holy Spirit. We have --- rather, He is --- the ability to take every negative thought captive, inserting Spiritual, God-worthy thoughts instead.

In my opinion, to "take every thought captive," we must be like
Paul who did not depend upon the tactics of this world (2 Co 10:2-3). But what he did do (and thereby leaving US an example) was he used God's mighty weapons to knock down Satan's strongholds (2 Co 10:4-6). See Harold Wilmington's alliterated outline of 2 Corinthians for more.
