What are God's demands for a born-again Christian?

In Psalms 119:33 David asks God to teach me His demands. David lived under the old testament and we live under the new. What a difference that makes .... can you summarize the demands of God for the new covenant of grace & mercy?

Psalms 119:1 - 176

ESV - 1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! 2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart.

We are to LOVE one another AS Jesus loved us (John 13:34)...that commandment was NEW because it is different from Matt 22:39 ... You shall love your neighbor as yourself....And it doesn't appear anywhere else... Although it's similar to Matt 22:37, it's not the same...

John 13:34 A NEW commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

1 John 3:23 And this is HIS commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

The two commandments mentioned in Matt 22:37 were part of the Mosaic Law. You'll find them in the Old Testament. Jesus was responding to a question as to commandments of the Law.

Those two commandments were equal to each other.

So being that those commandments were part of the Law we know that they don't apply to Christians as we are not under the Law...

Rom 6:14 NKJV - For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are NOT UNDER LAW but under grace.

John also tells us that we CANNOT love God unless we love our brother...
So loving your brother would appear to be more important to God. When we love our brother it shows God that we love him...

1Jo 4:20 NKJV - If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who DOES NOT love his brother whom he has seen, HOW CAN HE love God whom he has not seen?

Love is the GREATEST!

1Cr 13:13 NLT - Three things will last forever--faith, hope, and love--and the GREATEST of these is love.

Praise the Lord!

There is only 2 commandments for the new testament believers. First and most important is Love the LORD your God with all your Heart, Soul and Mind and Second greatest commandment is Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matt : 22 : 37 - 39)

There are no demands. He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us. Just as we accepted Christ by faith, we live by faith. The Pharisees and many of our churches have made rules that are not in the Bible. We are free from the law. Galatians tells us to stand fast with the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free and be not entangled again in the yoke of bondage.

This is a great question, and I'd like to expand on Anupama's great answer:
In addition to the greatest commandments (which is I think all we really need) we also have these verses to reflect on:

My focus is on verse 42: There is only one thing worth being concerned about....
Luke 10: 38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

And John 15: 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

Of course these two passages tie into the greatest commandments, this is where eternal life can truly be found.

After becoming a born-again Believer, one is equipped with the Holy Spirit. Our old sinful nature now is on notice that it must get out of the way. It will do so IF we listen to the Holy Spirit continually. Doing so, we are equipped to witness to others. We are to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Thee are no "demands" or "rules," but we miss out on the opportunity to witness effectively if we do not follow Him. We follow Him by listening to the Holy Spirit. Read Acts 9 through Philemon, then join us at..........
