In my humble opinion Yes for when you proclaim anything in public it becomes public record a place marker in time. Baptism as a young adult much like signing a contract must be done with full knowledge and in freedom. The public display of your choice may move other fence sitters or unbelievers to question their positions on such matters.
God's kingdom operates in the light of day with nothing to hide for all people to see and behold His glory.

 Luke 12:9 is quite clear on the Lord's position on public denials
 1Cor. 16:13 faith and courage

Consider that most operations of the dark world kingdom are done in private secret deals behind closed doors or in darkness, almost as if they're ashamed or something!
