ESV - 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

I remember Jeff Deyo (former Sonicflood frontman and Lead Worshiper) singing, "Brokenness- brokenness is what I long for. Brokenness is what I need. Brokenness- brokenness is what You want from me." I have long taught that what God does NOT desire is what the world calls broken-hearted; viz, sad and despondent due from emotional or physical loss. The broken heart God desires is what the Teacher spoke of in Proverbs- not being haughty in spirit, not putting one's self above one's place. I would submit that Paul put it best when he wrote for "everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think." (http://bible.com/72/rom.12.3.hcsb)
