Why didn't Jesus show Himself to everybody after He resurrected?

Acts 10:40 - 41

KJV - 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly. 41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

...During the time of Jesus' earthly incarnation--before the Crucifixion--the time was open for unbelievers to repent. After He was put on the cross, those unbelievers alive at the time had lost their opportunity. Pilate was given a chance to proclaim Jesus' innocence, pronounce Him the true Son of God, and set Him free-- only to bow to the will of the people because of his own uncaring disbelief. Similarly, Jesus could have jumped down from the cross, but the evil hearts present would not have repented, and of course, it would not have been within His mission of taking on the sins of the world. Therefore Jesus only selectively appeared to close associates living in redemption.
