In my opinion, Jesus was simply telling Peter what he wants every Christian to hear. If you Love Me, prove it. Prove it by taking care of the little lambs. Take care of the sheep, and since I will no longer be here, do what I would do! Be the good shepherd! Take care of the flock! Also, knowing Peter was ashamed of denying Him 3 times, He repeated his instructions 3 times in using three different words for sheep so Peter had no doubt what Jesus wanted. He wanted Peter to be the Rock of Faith he was named for and never deny his calling again. Are you going to deny me when the little ones need you? Are you going to deny me when the sheep are hungry? Are you going to deny me when the flock, my flock, needs you to lead them?
