What did Noah sacrifice for his burnt offering at the altar?

Genesis 8:17

ESV - 17 Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh - birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth - that they may swarm on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.

Noah was in the ark for a very long time. Long enough for the animals to reproduce again and again.

In Genesis 6:19 we read: "And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female." These were mated pairs for reproduction.

Possibly 100 years after the previous command to take two, one "male and female", Genesis 17:2 tells of the animals which were to be kept for sacrifice: "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.

The "clean beasts.......by sevens" were to be the sacrificial animals.

Another example of this imagined "time warp" occurs in Genesis 9. In v. 1 God told Noah and his sons to be fruitful and multiply. In Genesis 9:20 Noah planted a vineyard. 9:21 says he drank of the wine and became drunk. It would obviously take a few years from planting to fruition then several months for fermentation of the grapes. In v.22-24 we see that Noah's "younger son" had apparently molested him while he was drunk. (It was a common practice to refer to extended family members as son, daughter, etc.)

v. 18 and 22 tells us Ham was the father of Canaan and in verse 25 Noah pronounces a curse upon Canaan, his grandson. Canaan had to be of a sexually mature age to have assaulted Noah.

Sometimes two consecutive verses span decades or centuries, even millennium.
