It seems to me that the Bible teaches that God pours out ALL of his wrath twice--once at the cross (in the past), and once at the great white throne judgment (in the future). How is this possible? If the Messiah took THE FULL CUP of the Father's wrath upon Himself at the cross, what wrath remains for the final judgment? Please understand--I'm not asking about the relationship between love and justice. I'm asking a question that regards quantitative logic. If Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the whole world...what is the current source of sin and evil and the need for God's future wrath? Thank you, and God bless.

Jesus returning the second time is to put down all rule and authority which signifies JUDGMENT. Pay attention to the words of this text 1 Corinthians 15:22-26 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ ALL shall be made alive. But EVERY MAN in his own order: (1) Christ the firstfruits [who Rose from the dead], AFTERWARD (2)those who are Christ's at His coming [still yet to come, The Elect of God] Then comes (3) the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, WHEN He puts AN END TO all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. when it says, "then comes the end", yes that signifies God coming in wrath. But, pay attention to the words -- Christ puts AN END to ALL rule, authority, power; He will reign till all enemies are under His Feet (subjection), the LAST enemy being death. This all includes: Sin (which has rule Romans 6:14), The devil (who has authority Luke 4:6) and principalities, rulers of the darkness of this age (which have power Ephesians 6:12). Last enemy being Death, including Hell (Greek: Hades). This answers to the Lake of Fire. There is a tremendous need for JUDGMENT. All will have their part in the Lake of Fire - which is the Great White Throne of Judgment. Satan, the false prophet, the beast, DEATH AND HELL (Hades) are all thrown into the Lake of Fire, which is the SECOND Death (Revelation 20:10, 14-15). And Keep in mind the "Last enemy that will be destroyed is Death". So all in all, yes God is coming in WRATH" but here is why Christ died for the sins of the world and which will answer to the "wrath" of God. Pay attention to the last part of this verse Romans 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the DAY OF WRATH and REVELATION OF THE "RIGHTEOUS" JUDGMENT of God Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. I pray God opens your eyes to His Glorious Second Coming (Luke 3:6)
I would say that, while Jesus did endure God's punishment for all of humanity's sins for all time, each individual human must then avail themselves of that atonement by admitting their need for it, their inability to achieve it through their own effort, and their total dependence on Christ's finished work, in order to appropriate that salvation for themselves. It is pride (which C. S. Lewis called "The Great Sin"), rather than God's will or decree, that prevents people from doing so during their earthly lives, and that will thus result in their being eternally lost when that life is over.
