Chronologically, the last of the Old Testament books written was Malachi which was penned about 450 B.C. 

Malachi is generally accepted as the last of the writing prophets. John the Baptist was referred to by Jesus as the greatest prophet that had risen (Matt 11:7-11). However, John left no writings.
