"In view of the fact that you have above such enemies (Eph. 6:12), be clothed with armor of God. It will make you invulnerable and victorious ".(Eph. 6:13-18).

The weapons of righteousness are:

1 ►► Defensive armor for protection:
(1) The helmet of salvation (Eph. 6:17)
Greek: perikephalaia (G4030), the helmet--for the head, of various forms embossed with many kinds of figures

(2) Loins girded about with truth (Eph. 6:14)
Greek: zoma (G2223), the girdle--for the loins to brace the armor tight against the body, and support daggers, swords and other weapons

(3) Breastplate of righteousness (Eph. 6:14)
Greek: thorax (G2382), the breastplate in two parts--one to cover the breast and the other to cover the back to protect the vital organs of the body. It extended down to the legs

(4) Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace (Eph. 6:15)
Greek: knemides, greaves to cover the shins. A kind of solea was often used to protect the feet from rocks, thorns, etc.

(5) The shield of faith (Eph. 6:16)
Greek: thureos (G2375), shield, to protect the body from blows and cuts

2 ►► Offensive armor for conquest:
(1) The sword of the Spirit, the Word of God (Eph. 6:17)
Greek: machaira (G3162), sword, to destroy the enemy and bring his surrender.

We fight against evil thoughts, lusts, passions, and temptations of various kinds (1Cor. 10:13-14 2Cor. 10:4-6 Jas. 1:13-15 Rom. 6:12; 1Jn. 2:15-17). "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day".

We also fight against various spiritual forces:

►► Four Kinds of Spirit Rebels
1. Greek: archas (G746), principalities, chief rulers or beings of the highest rank and order in Satan's kingdom (Eph. 6:12; 1:21; Col. 2:10)
2. Greek: exousias (G1849), authorities, those who derive their power from and execute the will of the chief rulers (Eph. 6:12; 1:21; Col. 2:10)
3. Greek: kosmokratoras (G2888), world-rulers of the darkness of this age, the spirit world-rulers (Dan. 10:13-21 Eph. 1:21; 6:12; Col. 1:16-18)
4. Greek: pneumatika (G4152) tes (G3588) ponerias (G4189), spiritual wickedness, that of the wicked spirits of Satan in the heavenlies (Eph. 6:12; 1:21; Col. 1:16-18)

"In view of the fact that you have above such enemies (Eph. 6:12), be clothed with armor of God. It will make you invulnerable and victorious". (Eph. 6:13-18).

What is righteousness? Righteousness is having the mind like that of God. A mind that loves and intends to do well, a mind that intends to save and not to destroy, to collect and not to scatter, to make live and not to kill. Righteousness can also be defined as fulfilling God’s will on earth. What is God’s will? God’s will is the mind of God about the earth. The mind of God about the earth is all good.

The weapons of righteousness;

Who is a righteous person? A righteous person is one who does not let their emotions override them, and emotions do not influence their actions. David was righteous over Saul because much as Saul had sought for the life of David and David knowing it was nothing else but that, when David had the opportunity to finish Saul, and being persuaded by his colleagues to do just that, David never allowed his emotions to overtake him, he spared Saul’s life, David in fact continued to refer to Saul as his master (1Samuel 24), (1Samuel 26). David had decided to leave everything to God. From David’s experience we learn that some of the things that present themselves to us as if they are opportunities, may not necessarily be so, they could simply be a way for God to test how our mind is managed in such situations.

We learn that the weapons of righteousness will only lead us to fight how God directs us and not how our feelings or thinking directs us. Emotionally, there was no reason for Jesus to suffer for whatever He suffered, yet because of the love He had for us; it was the lead factor in all He did. That is why He continued to love when He should have hated, He blessed when He should have cursed. This is what God expects of us. Our salvation and faith in Jesus is only fulfilled when we accept to be directed of God, the very reason He left us the Holy Spirit. Jesus only won our love after He loved us.

Righteousness is also a part of God in someone. Whatever good any person does, it is a direct display of the Spirit of God in that person. It is only suppressed in many cases and only allowed in very few cases. Righteousness is evidenced in the following: Love, Joy, Peace, Long suffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self control (Galatians 5:22-23).

To be righteousness therefore, is to be like God. In Matthew 5:20, Jesus affirms that unless our righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees, we will by no means enter the Kingdom of heaven. We should fight not from a point of anger, but from a point of good intentions.

Ours is a spiritual battle and the weapons to use are equally spiritual (1Corinthians 10:4-6). They are not to be directed at the possessed, but at the one commanding the attack, the devil. We therefore fight not to destroy the object in form of a human being, but the spirit that is commanding the object to attack. It is a spiritual warfare; we are equally to fight spiritually. The devil’s intention is to kill and destroy.

In Matthew 5:39-48, Jesus directed how a righteous person fights. He doesn’t seek revenge, he is humble, he forgives, and he loves when he should be cursing. Our obedience breaks any disobedience. Our humility breaks any stubbornness, our love breaks any hate.

To be Born Again is a one off, and it is upon this that we are granted righteousness (Romans 10:10). For to be Born Again is to accept and allow Christ into one's life. But the maintenance of it is of us.

In Salvation, we don’t fight to get victory for our own personal fleshly satisfaction, we fight to get victory by having many saved and come to the obedience of the will of God. By that, spiritual weapons can be somehow painful to us, but are very rewarding by the end of the fight. We get victory for us and for those we are fighting with by having them come to God and realizing God’s loving kindness for all.
