What is "Death with Dignity"? Is it acceptable under special circumstances?

Suicide is not acceptable, yes. But in regards to the recent suicide of Brittany Maynard, does not it sound cruel to insist that one should bear the pain of a terminal illness no matter how terrific the pain is?

"We all have an appointment with God our Father. No one can change this appointment. While my heart goes out to Brittany and her family, it was not her choice to make the decision to die. Only God knows what He may have planned for her prior to her death. Perhaps He had chosen her to make a difference in someone else's life or some other reason, one we will never know. In other words, death is not our choice but His.
