Personally I find this answer to be one of the most helpful, well-thought out and well-reasoned reply to a complex and yet very important question - on capitalism, Thank you so much for writing it Michael.
My only caveat would be (just trying to be helpful) concerns your comment in paragraph 3: "But even the gospel appeals to our self-interest, because it is in our self-interest to accept Jesus Christ as our savior so that our eternal destiny will be assured." Whilst repentance and turning to Christ does indeed assure our salvation, our Christian life would show little true spiritual growth if we do not quickly realize that in receiving God's infinite mercy in this way, the goal is to become like Christ, having the same spirit of generosity and loving kindness - not for what we can gain, other than the fact that we want to become more like the Lord whom we truly worship.
