Does Satan really have power to deceive people in these ways?

The Bible contains multiple examples of evil or satanic spiritual forces allowing people to perform seemingly miraculous feats (for example, as Pharaoh's sorcerers did in Exodus 7-8, or Simon Magus did in Acts 8:9-11). Jesus spoke of the increasing prevalence of such people or groups as a sign of the end times, and said that they would be trying, if possible, even to deceive God's elect (Matthew 24:24). Such occurrences should warn Christians that the forces of evil that are active in the world are powerful, and that their activity will increase as the end of the age approaches. Christians must be discerning, and have the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17) by being thoroughly grounded in God's Word and in their own faith to be able to stand firm against these attacks, and to actively counter and refute them. As the apostle John told his readers (1 John 4:4), "Greater is He Who is in you than he who is in the world."
