In my opinion, both references in the verse (that is, to the morning stars, as well as to the sons of God) pertain to spiritual or angelic beings (specifically, angels of distinguished glory or rank) who were appointed by God to administer various aspects of His creation (as well as to praise Him for it), and who were as prominent in the angelic hierarchy as the heavenly body designated as the morning star is in the lights of the sky. (Referring to those beings as morning stars may also have indicated the brightness of their appearance.) (As an added note, I would say that the phrase "sons of God" does not indicate equality with God -- as in the case of God the Son -- but refers to them as sons in the sense of having been directly made or originated by God Himself.)
