The qualifications for a pastor (or "bishop") as the King James Version of the Bible puts it, are in 1TI 3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; TIT 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; I think the phrase, "not given to wine," means any alcoholic beverage. He must not get drunk continually. He has responsibilities, 24/7, which he could not fulfull if he were drunk. I was a pastor for 8 years. I know this is true. But I had trouble with almost getting an ulcer. So a sweet 90 year old lady in my church suggested that I take 1 tablespoon of brandy at night before bed. I did. It helped I think. But then I married another sweet younger lady who was a teetotaler, and I haven't touched the stuff since.
